Your feet take an average of 6,000 to 10,000 steps per day, absorbing your full body weight with each one. When foot pain strikes — whether it's the stabbing first-step-of-the-morning agony of plantar fasciitis, the deep ache of arch or heel pain, or the stiffness of an ankle that never fully recovered from a sprain — it changes how you move through your entire world. You start compensating, shifting your weight, walking differently, and before long, your knees, hips, and back are affected too.
Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common foot conditions I treat, and it's also one of the most responsive to massage therapy. The plantar fascia is a thick band of connective tissue running from your heel to your toes, and when it becomes inflamed, every step feels like walking on a bruise. But the fascia doesn't become inflamed in isolation — tight calves are almost always part of the picture. When the gastrocnemius and soleus are chronically shortened, they pull on the Achilles tendon, which increases tension on the plantar fascia at the heel. Releasing the calves is often the key to lasting plantar fasciitis relief.
Ankle stiffness and limited dorsiflexion — the inability to pull your foot toward your shin — commonly follow sprains, periods of immobility, or chronic calf tightness. Working the peroneal muscles on the outer lower leg, the tibialis muscles along the shin, and the intrinsic muscles of the foot itself helps restore the mobility the ankle needs to function properly. For conditions like bunion-related foot muscle tension, ball-of-foot pain, and high-arch strain, targeted work on the foot's intrinsic muscles and plantar surface provides direct relief.
Red light therapy applied directly to inflamed plantar fascia, Achilles insertions, and swollen ankle tissue reduces inflammation at the cellular level and supports faster tissue recovery. Here in Spokane, post-hike foot soreness, flat-feet-related calf tightness, and the toll of walking on icy sidewalks all keep foot and ankle pain a year-round concern.
Every session at Soothe & Sage includes red light therapy, cupping, salt stones, steamed towels, aromatherapy, and warm packs at one flat rate with no add-on fees. Your feet carry you through everything — let's make sure they're not carrying pain too.
